How To Keep A Gpu Cool While Gaming?

How To Keep A Gpu Cool While Gaming?

Gaming computers are able to run games at high settings with no lag because of the powerful hardware they have. Gamers need good cooling in order to prevent their computers from overheating when running intense games for long periods of time. A graphics processing unit, or GPU, is one part that needs extra cooling in a gaming computer. Without proper cooling, it can overheat and cause your computer to freeze up while you play your game – resulting in lost data and/or progress! Here’s how you can keep your GPU cool while gaming!

Install A Pci Slot Fan Cooler

A dedicated graphics card fan cools the GPU inside your computer. If you have a desktop computer, installing a PCI slot fan cooler is the best way to go for dedicated cooling between gaming sessions. Just slide it into any available PCI slot on your motherboard and plug it in! However, there are certain cases where you will need to power the fan with your own power supply or use a splitter. If you are unsure, contact your motherboard’s technical support department to see how it should be set up before using one.

If you have an external GPU for laptop computers, make sure there is airflow in between it and your laptop for better cooling!

Use Your Pc Case’s Cooling Fans

Your computer is not just made up of the hardware inside – it has vents on the side and back for airflow. Using more than one fan, you can cool down your entire computer by circulating air through it. Many cases come with two built-in fans on their sides to keep things running smoothly. This is a passive cooling process and is done without you having to do anything!

Make Sure Your Computer Room Is Cool!

Extreme temperatures can be dangerous for both you and your computer – if your computer overheats inside of an enclosed space, even the smallest bump in temperature could cause it to crash. Avoid using your gaming computer when there’s heat outside, like in the summer months.

If this is not possible, at least make sure you do not place your computer in direct sunlight or near heating vents – keep it in a cool room away from all sources of heat!

Get Yourself An Aftermarket Cpu Cooler

Aftermarket CPU coolers are great for gamers who don’t want to upgrade their whole computer just for better cooling. These coolers attach directly to the CPU and help reduce the temperature of your processor by up to 20%!

Monitor your temperatures!

This seems like a no-brainer, but you’ll never know if your GPU is overheating unless you keep an eye on its internal thermometer. This will help you to detect problems before they cause your computer to crash.

If you are using an external GPU, check the fan speed on it as well – if it is running slowly or not at all, there could be a problem!

Play With Gpu Settings:

You can also reduce the quality of your settings to play with less power, but if you have a dedicated GPU, this is not recommended.

Lastly, keep in mind that GPUs are generally more reliable than CPU coolers – for maximum cooling effect when playing games, use both!

Use Less Demanding Games So You Can Game Longer Without Overheating:

If you want to play your games longer without overheating, try installing less demanding games. For instance, playing solitaire on your computer for 30 minutes will produce about 5% of the wear and tear that a more graphics-intensive game like Dota 2 would.

Clean Out Dust From Inside Of The Case Every Few Months To Keep It Running Cooler:

If you are using a desktop computer, it’s important to open up your case every few months and wipe down the inside of it. This will help remove excess dust that has built up on your CPU cooler, which can cause overheating!

Be Sure To Keep Your Computer Ventilated At All Times:

If you have an external GPU for laptops, make sure there is airflow in between it and your laptop for better cooling!

If this is not possible, at least make sure you do not place your computer in direct sunlight or near heating vents – keep it in a cool room away from all sources of heat!

Adjust The Fan Speed:

If your computer case has fan controls, you can use these to adjust how fast the fans run. This may help cool down your computer faster than just letting it passively cool on its own! If this is not possible, at least make sure all of your fans are running at full speed for maximum cooling effect!

Clean Your Gpu Roughly Every Six Months:

A good way to keep your GPU from overheating is to clean it every six months. Over time, dust and dirt can work their way into the inside of your GPU and cause a build-up around its fan blades. This affects airflow and can lead to overheating! You can easily open up your computer case and use a compressed air duster to knock out all of the dust from inside of your GPU.

Don’t Play Intense Games For Long Periods Of Time:

Playing games uses a lot of resources from both your CPU and GPUs – if you have two or more GPUs installed, this will overwork them and cause them to heat up! If you want to play a lot of games, consider installing a second GPU dedicated to gaming only. This way you won’t overwork your computer’s other components, and it’ll be able to cool down between play sessions – resulting in much longer lasting gameplay!

If this is not possible, at least make sure you do not place your computer in direct sunlight or near heating vents – keep it in a cool room away from all sources of heat!

Avoid Running Multiple Gpus At Once:

If you have a dedicated GPU and an external one, don’t play games on both of them simultaneously! Not only will this overwork your computer’s components, it’ll make the internal fan spin faster and louder than usual – which can be distracting to gamers!

Conclusion:

With these tips, you’ll never have to worry about overheating when playing games again! You can keep your computer cool and play all of the games you want without losing data or progress!
